The aim of the course is to build an understanding of what is meant by Web 2.0 and how it is now being extensively used in the Job Search and Recruitment arena.  It includes a brief overview of how various Web 2.0 platforms and Apps, including social media,  support job search activities.

Learning outcomes:

After studying this topic, the student will :

  • Be able to differentiate between different social media platforms
    • Understand the different audiences and uses
    • Understand the media and target audiences
    • Understand the etiquette  
    • Be aware of the impact and reach of current social media usage

  • Understand the efficacy of social media platforms as an aid to job search
    • Understand the development of social media in recruitment
    • Be aware of job boards and web 2.0 tools

  • Appreciate the importance of social media as a tool for career development
    • Understand the development of social media in career development
    • Understand the uses of web 2.0 technologies for training and development
    • Be aware of new developments and platforms to support career development and learning
